Current situation of the sake industry
① Young people are seriously turning away from sake
A private survey revealed that 70% of people in their 20s and 30s have not drunk sake in the past year, highlighting once again the fact that young people in Japan are turning away from sake.
Source: Survey on actual consumption of sake by asking men and women across the country, research by Tatenokawa Sake Brewery
② Diversification and globalization of alcoholic beverages
While sake is becoming more popular overseas, it is also true that there are fewer options available in Japan due to the wide variety of alcohol available.
③Decrease in food and beverage demand due to the coronavirus pandemic
Due to the impact of the new coronavirus, online work and telework have rapidly become popular.
As a result, total food and beverage demand is expected to decline by 70-80% during WITH Corona and AFTER Corona.
Most of the decline was due to demand for dinners and business trips by businessmen, the customer base that has supported the consumption of sake.
Furthermore, even before the coronavirus, the sake industry has been in decline, with over 4,000 sake breweries at its peak around 1972, but the number has significantly decreased to around 1,400 in 2016, and it is said that as of 2022, there are only about 1,000 officially operating sake breweries.
WITH CORONA AND AFTER We will be in a much more difficult situation after the coronavirus, so drastic structural reforms will be necessary, and sake breweries themselves will need to create fans, rather than just relying on liquor stores as they have done up until now.
new market,
And new sake fans
It needs to be earned.

- LSG begins accepting applications in August every year, and begins full-scale activities in September. The contract period is one year.

- Of course. Once you are certified as an LSG, the first step is to have the sake brewery give you an explanation about the brewery and the actual sake brewing process.
