[Tomoya Nanami, Chairman of the Ishikawa Prefecture Hosu Liquor Sales Association and Representative of Shitsumiya]From the perspective of a that supports sake culture through sales, we will discuss the current situation in Noto and the support we can provide.Thank you for your talk.

February 18th-21st, Hands-onRepresentative Masuda and online moderator KokadoTo Hokuriku. Chairman Nanami drove himself around the site and guided us through the site.I witnessed a situation that was much more than what I saw in the media. We will tell you about some of the current situation in Noto, which has not yet reached recovery, let alone reconstruction.

An opportunity to think about what we can do in the futureI would appreciate it if you could do that.

What is online sake brewery study abroad?

You can also taste the thoughts and personality of the sake brewer, and through sake you can learn about life and create new connections. Having fun learning with friends who live far away will make your regular drinks even more delicious and flavorful.

This article was published on Saturday, March 30, 2024.Held as a special project to support areas affected by the Noto Earthquake. Along with sake breweries, we spoke to liquor stores that support Japanese sake culture through sales. In these difficult times, three breweries sent us carefully selected alcoholic beverages, and while each student drank a different type of alcoholic beverage, they shared what they learned about the current situation in Noto and how they can help in the future.

SAKE Kurafan Noto Peninsula disaster-stricken liquor store support period Accepting applications until the end of April

SAKE Kurafan extend the periodAccepting applications until the end of AprilIt is. Thank you for your continued support.

Crowdfunding aimed at supporting liquor stores affiliated with the Hosu Liquor Sales Association that were damaged by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred in 2020.It is. The Hoju Liquor Sales Association is in charge of Wajima City, Suzu City, Anamizu Town, and Noto Town, which were severely damaged.
This is one of the projects we launched because we, as people involved in sake, would like to support this project.

"It's not an earthquake, it's a tectonic movement" - a disaster that changes the topography of the Noto Peninsula due to uplift

This Noto Peninsula earthquake was not an earthquake, but a tectonic movement. The ground in Monzen-cho, Wajima City has risen by 4 meters, and the port is no longer a port. What was the sea became the ground,The topography of the Noto Peninsula itself has changed.

The Oku-Noto area, where Nanakaiya is located, has suffered the most damage, and the devastation is beyond words. All 11 sake breweries in the Oku-Noto area were damaged, and many were completely destroyed. Our liquor stores also suffered severe damage, including broken and dirty liquor bottles.

I believe that when it comes to sake, it is important to have a cooperative system between sake breweries, which make alcohol, and liquor stores, which sell alcohol. Sake breweries and us liquor stores work together hand in hand. And great power is generatedIt is. This time, we would like to share with you the situation of sake breweries and liquor stores as well as the damage caused by the disaster.Supporting the Noto area in the long runI would appreciate it if you could give me some.

At the Nanami-ya store, shelves fell down during the New Year's earthquake, and most of the products fell and broke. It's a sea of debris and liquid, and I don't know where to start. Even in the warehouse, the shelves have collapsed and there is nowhere to step. Of the two stores, one, which is also his birthplace, has completely collapsed.

The coronavirus pandemic has finally come to an end, and there are now more opportunities to enjoy drinks outside. As the new year approaches, the events of that day make me think, ``I'm going to do my best this year and start over!'' On January 1st, there were 521 earthquakes with a seismic intensity of 1 or higher, and we are still living with aftershocks. Lifelines have not been restored and life is inconvenient in every way.

The Hoju Liquor Sales Association has 120 companies and 130 stores, but as of the end of March, three months later, we are still unable to contact 40% of the member stores.continues.

“Noto has a culture of valuing human connections, even down to its kindness and soil”

"Noto is kind and even the soil" is a phrase that expresses the climate of Noto and the gentleness and warmth of the unpretentious nature of the people who live there. It is. After the earthquake, we received support from many people, and we are doing what we can to help.

For example, in the wake of the 2007 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, we have continued to have exchanges with Nagaoka City (formerly Kawaguchi Town), which was affected by the 2004 Chuetsu Earthquake, for over 10 years. The exchange started with the aim of sharing each other's experiences of the earthquake and contributing to recovery, and has since opened at events in Kawaguchi Town and shared drinks.

When I posted the current situation of Nanakaiya on SNS due to this earthquake, people saw it.Four people from the former Kawaguchi Town came to the site from January 3rd for two days and one night, saying, ``We'll come help you clean up!''It is. Thanks to you, we managed to find a foothold and were able to reopen the store for local residents from the evening of January 5th.

Out of gratitude, I alsoIn February, I went to an event in the former Kawaguchi Town with leftover local sake and Noto oysters.I was very pleased.

At the request of an acquaintance, Nanakaiya is also being used as a place to drop off supplies for pets and give them away for free.

We have also received a lot of support from volunteers who come to Noto and buy alcoholic beverages and food items with damaged bottles and dirty labels as souvenirs from the Noto Peninsula.

Because the store is located along the national highway, fire trucks, ambulances, Self-Defense Forces, and waterworks officials come from all over the country.

We also see people lining up to assist in lifesaving and recovery efforts.

I am filled with gratitude for everyone's support.

Visiting a sake brewery in Noto with Chairman Nanami to learn about the current situation

Hands-on representative Masuda and online host Kokado visited Hokuriku from February 18th to 21st to learn about the current situation in Noto.

Chairman Nanami personally drove around the site, visited the affected sake breweries, and talked about the current situation. We will tell you about some of the current situation in Noto, which has not yet reached recovery, let alone reconstruction.

Kazuma Sake Brewery

It was difficult to contact the brewers about their safety, but at this time (February), Chairman Nanami was able to meet directly with the brewers for the first time since the earthquake. There were tears in my eyes when we finally met again.

There were steps, cracks in the ground, and a small tsunami that hit the factory, and the storehouse was filled with sludge. The water outage continued for a long time, making it impossible to clean the area, but the water outage was finally resolved on March 15th.

Bottling will resume in April. You can find out the latest status on the Kazuma Shuzo website and Facebook.

Kazuma Sake Brewery Revival Report

We handed out colored paper with messages written on it from SAKE fans to the brewery.

Sogen Sake Brewery

This is a large-scale sake brewery that ranks among the top three in Ishikawa Prefecture. The mountain behind the building collapsed, sending mud and fallen trees into the Heisei-Kura building, knocking down telephone poles and cutting off power transmission. Since February 1st, with no electricity, I have resumed doing what I can with my hands. As of March 30th, electricity has been temporarily restored, but the water supply is still not restored, cleaning is difficult, and new bottling is not progressing.

It was famous for its sake, which was stored in the old National Railway Noto Line tunnel at the end of the road (the temperature was low and it was possible to store alcohol stably), but the tunnel collapsed as mud and sand poured into the building.

Sakurada Sake Brewery

Suzu City, where Sakurada Sake Brewery is located, was the epicenter of the earthquake, and some people lost their lives in the tsunami. The road conditions along the coastline we passed along the way were so bad that I thought I might get a flat tire.

Most of the houses in the Suzu City area were completely or partially destroyed. The devastation was such that Nanami, the director of the board of directors, said, ``There are so many collapsed houses that I can't imagine how the area will be restored or people will come back and live after reconstruction.''

During the three-hour journey, they hardly met anyone, and many of them are still forced to live as evacuees.

We received heartfelt sake from three sake breweries.

This time, the Oku-Noto area where Nanami-ya is located was severely damaged.Cooperation from three sake breweries in neighboring districtsWe received a selection of sake from each sake brewery.

Three different brands of alcohol will be randomly delivered to each international student. The meeting was held to learn about the current situation in Noto and future support, while also learning the recommended points of each alcoholic beverage from Chairman Nanami.

The owner of Nanakaiya is also involved in sake brewing, and uses a rare manufacturing method that uses deep ocean water not only for the brewing water but also for the water used to lower the original sake (35%) to 25%.

Serving Noto's local sake and seasonal "Maimon" to everyone

"Maimon" means "delicious food" in the Noto dialect.

Local sake goes well with ``Maimon'' produced locally.I really think so.

Noto has four distinct seasons, is surrounded by the sea on three sides, and has mountains.

In spring, if you go to the mountains, you can pick wild vegetables (kogomi, warabi, gyōja garlic, etc.), and if you go to the river, you can pick isaza (white fish, also called "harutsugeuo"). In the shallow waters of Anamizu Town, there is also an abundance of slender, soft-textured mozuku called ``silk mozuku.'' Noto oysters and sea cucumbers are also local specialties.

42nd Online Sake Brewery Study Abroad [Hirokatsu Sakurada, 4th generation brewery brewer, Sakurada Sake Brewery]

Founded in 1914 (Taisho 3)Sakurada Sake Breweryis a small sake brewery run by a family of four, located in Takojima-cho, Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, a hunting town in Oku-Noto.

There are two brands that we handle. It was revived in the Heisei era as a founding brand.Junmaishu “Taikei”And,Honjozo and carefully selected “Hatsuzakura”. Both are alcoholic beverages that have been loved and enjoyed by local people.

In fact, in May of last year, the walls of the storehouse had collapsed due to an earthquake with a magnitude of 6 or above, and had just been repaired. However, just as I was thinking that I would start preparations after the New Year, on New Year's Day of this year, I was struck again by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6 or above, which instantly destroyed my storehouse and my home. Although they narrowly escaped with their lives, more than 1,000 bottles in stock were discarded.

At Hands-On SAKE, we launched the Noto Peninsula Sake Brewery Support Project on January 3rd, immediately after the earthquake, through our company's crowdfunding platform "SAKE Kurafun," and donated 872 units and 8,303,028 yen to the Japan Sake Brewers Association.

After that, on February 20th, representative Masuda and online moderator Kokado went to Noto and met Mr. Sakurada in person.

Mr. Sakurada was faced with the thought of ``closing business'' in the face of this devastation, but was moved by the voices of support from customers and business partners, and vowed to restart sake brewing. With the cooperation of sake breweries in Ishikawa Prefecture, we have begun joint brewing and are moving forward.

(The next time you study abroad online, we will ask you to send us the last remaining sake in the brewery.)

What we can do now is to drink in and talk about Mr. Sakurada's feelings.

Would you like to join us and talk about the future of Sakurada Sake Brewery and Noto?
